Department of Education’s Personalized Student Learning Plan Pilot Program
Sixteen schools throughout the State of New Jersey were chosen to participate in the Department of Education’s
Personalized Student Learning Plan Pilot Program.
The goal of this pilot program is to determine various implementation methods for developing Personalized Student Learning Plans.
The sixteen pilot schools, each with their very own unique characteristics, will implement Personalized Student Learning Plans in the sixth grade and/or ninth grade classes according to their developed action plan.
The schools must fulfill certain requirements as outlined by the NJDOE in order to participate in this very worthwhile pilot program.
The Focus of the Student Learning Plans
The focus of a student learning plan is to help students set personal, academic and career goals and develop a path to reach their goals.
Students will participate in a series of interest and learning style surveys in order to find areas of strength, and then match their survey results with possible future career options.
Throughout the year, each and every sixth grader (at Linwood) and ninth grader (at NBTHS) will research careers of choice, listen to audios and videos from people presently in those careers, and begin to develop their educational plan and student portfolio.
Steps to Success - "Encouragement and Support Every Step of the Way"
Through the implementation of our
“Steps to Success”
program, Linwood Middle School and North Brunswick Township High School will partner staff members with small groups of students to begin the process of making connections with school and learning, understanding self, analyzing personal qualities, and instilling a desire for students to take responsibility for their career path.
Our district mission statement states that we need to educate our students to become independent thinkers and problems solvers so that they will be empowered to meet the challenges of and achieve success in tomorrow’s emerging world community.
Our middle school team will help students begin this process of becoming independent thinkers by analyzing personal interests, researching career pathways, and determining the skills needed to reach their lifetime goals and future aspirations.
The high school team will continue the process of empowering students to achieve success through redefining interests, finding a career pathway, and focusing on the educational program that will help the student reach their individual goals.
In a coordinated effort both the middle and high school pilot program teams, with the assistance of the teacher advisory groups (TAG teams), will provide the students with
“encouragement and support every step of the way”
in their efforts to become successful citizens in tomorrow’s emerging world community.
